1431068 Stabilizers for vinyl chloride polymers M & T INTERNATIONAL BV 10 July 1973 [10 July 1972] 32796/73 Heading C3P A stabilizer mixture consists of (a) at least 50% by weight of a reaction product of a dialkyl tin oxide, dihydroxide or dihalide having 1-8 carbon atoms per alkyl group, with an ester or a hydroxyester of a polyol having 3 to 12 carbon atoms and 3 or 4 hydroxyl groups and a mercapto-carboxylic acid having up to 8 carbon atoms and optionally up to 2 moles of a monocarboxylic acid having more than 8 carbon atoms, and (b) a compound Ba(OAs) 2 or Ba(OOCR) 2 , where Ar, which may contain inert substituents, is a phenyl group and R is C 8 _ 18 alkyl. The mixture is used particularly to stabilize vinyl chloride polymers. In examples the product of reaction of dibutyl tin oxide with an ester of pentaerythritol, mercaptoacetic acid and tall oil fatty acids is mixed with barium phenate and used to stabilize polyvinyl chloride. The composition also contains paraffin wax. Comparative examples using other organotin stabilizers are also described. |
