<p>1446782 Polyvinyl alcohol composition KIMBERLY-CLARK CORP 21 Aug 1973 [21 Aug 1972] 39622/73 Heading C3P [Also in Division D1] A binder for non-woven webs comprises an acidified aqueous solution containing 4-15 wt. per cent of polyvinyl alcohol solids, 1À6 to 8 wt. per cent of an alkaline borate (based on the P.V.A.), and an unstable organic acid in an amount sufficient to keep the pH of the solution below 6, the acid being one which decomposes into CO 2 and a volatile organic compound at about 100‹ C. Suitable such acids are acetoacetic acid and acetone dicarboxylic acid. Borax is preferably used as the alkaline borate, and may be formed in situ in the composition, as may the aceto-acetic acid, when used.</p> |
