Stub arbor for milling machine - has pairs of different size spring loaded driving dogs with one retracted into arbor body when not used

The stub arbor is used in a milling machine for holding shell type cutters and has a taper shank (1). Dogs are tenons in the cutter body drive it. Two or more pairs (2, 3) of different sized driving dogs are provided, to accommodate a range of cutters. Each dog has a hollow sleeve (5) containing a coil spring (6) and sliding in a hole (10) in the arbor head. Each hole locates in a slot (4), deep enough to permit retraction of the dog below the dog below the surface. The dogs are retained by a shoulder (9) contacting a spring circlip (7). A sleeve nut (11) holds the cutter in place.
