<p>Method for mfr. of plant pots of fibrous material is carried out by drying them to a moisture content of 20%, then compressing them at a pressure of >=50 kg/cm2. Pref. the edge zone of the pot is compressed in the axial direction of the pot in such a way that it expands when water is added, providing a thickened edge in the region of the opening of the pot. The resulting stable dimensions of the pot allows them to be handled by automatic machines. On compression, the pots acquire a wall thickness of e.g. 0.6 mm which saves space by 30-40% when stacking. The pots can absorb water more rapidly, and when filled to the brim with earth in the dry state, the edge expands upwards, reducing the risk of soiling from splashing water mixed with earth.</p> |
