Voids in a cable screened with a semiconducting sheath are detected by passing the cable through a series of four graphite filled reservoirs (2, 3, 4, 5). The first and last reservoirs (2, 5) are earthed, and the other two (3, 4) are connected to spark detection apparatus (7) the output of which is fed to a recorder (8). In order to ensure a good contact, the tanks may be vibrated.</p> |
