BIPOLAR ELECTRODE FOR CELL OF HIGH ENERGY DENSITY SECONDARY BATTERY

The electrodes consist of two elements (I, II) with from and rear faces and numerous openings formed by fixing the rear faces of (I, II) together so the front face of (I) is the anode in one cell and the front face of (II) forms the cathode in a second cell. Element (I) is permeable to electrolyte in the openings by element (II) is impermeable to both gas and electrolyte. The electrodes are esp. for zinc-chlorine batteries for driving motor cars. An energy wt. ratio >50 Wh/lb in obtd. when a Zn-Cl system is used.
