The scribing point (7) is mounted at the end of a horizontal aluminium tube (5) which is carried on an adjustable slider (3) fitted on a vertical column (2). To keep it from bending and carrying the scriber below the expected level, the tube is strengthened by a horizontal tensioner and a pair of oblique ones, but the compensation is inexact. These tensioners (16) run the full length of the tube. A reinforcement is provided from a further (adjustable) tensioner (4) added in the lower part of the tube. It extends no more than two-thirds of the way along it, and pref only half way.
