Window stay mechanism has a stay arm (2) with one end connected in a sliding manner with the top edge of the leaf. The other end is fitted with a sliding connection with hinge end (8). The hinge end consists of a flat part with a protruding hinge arm (13). The flat part of the hinge assembly is provided with guided recesses (9) and (10). Recess (9) is key hole-shaped and serves to accommodate pivot (5) fitted to stay arm (2), recesses (10) serves to accommodate hinge pin (11) protruding from the end of stay arm (2). The pin has a semicircular cross section with a flat surface and can be slid within the recess (10). The semicircular surface of the hinge pin (11) has groove (12) against which the rounded end (16) of adjusting screw (15) is resting. By turning screw (15) the effective length of stay arm (2) in relation to hinge bearing (14) can be varied.
