1474733 Centrifugal blowers RE DUPONT RESEARCH & INVESTMENT SERVICES Ltd 3 May 1974 19539/74 Heading F1C [Also in Divisions F1-4] Apparatus for exchanging heat between used air discharged from a building and fresh air introduced into the building comprises two rotatable heat exchangers 2, 2' which serve in use as centrifugal impellers for the fresh and used air respectively, the heat exchangers being connected together for simultaneous rotation by a shaft 7 having channels 9, 9' which are connected to tubes of each heat exchanger to form a closed circuit containing a heat transfer fluid which flows in use from one heat exchanger to the other heat exchanger and back again, and said closed circuit including a pump. The tubes of each heat exchanger are arranged in rings 18 to 21 about the axis of rotation, the outermost tube ring 18 of each heat exchanger being connected to the innermost ring 21 of the other heat exchanger so that the flow of heat transfer fluid through each heat exchanger is generally counter to the air-flow therethrough. Annular leaders 13a, 13c for the tube rings 18, 21 are connected to the channels 9, 9' by radial or spiral channels 14a b The pump comprises a stator 35 located in a hub region 33 of the impeller 2 and co-operates with the radial channel 14b, relative rotation of impeller 2 about stator 35 producing movement of heat transfer fluid through channel 9'. The stator 35 is fixed to a magnet 24 held substantially stationary by a fixed magnet 26 which is separated from the closed circuit by a magnetically permeable wall 25. A bellows 38 is provided to allow for fluid expansion. Each heat exchanger comprises either annular fins 16 or a helically coiled strip, and further curved fan blades 15. The shaft 7 is supported by bearings 6 and is detachably connected to the heat exchangers. The hub 34 of the impeller 2 is driven by a motor 52 via a belt 50 and a slipping clutch 51. The heat transfer fluid is a mixture of water and alcohol. |
