1520797 Wet quenching coke HARTUNG KUHN & CO MASCHINENFABRIK GmbH 11 Nov 1975 [14 Nov 1974] 46624/75 Heading F4B In a process for the wet quenching of coke, quenching water is sprinkled on to the hot coke in a container 46, the evolved water gascontaining vapour being collected and the water gas separated from the vapour and stored in a reservoir 32. As shown, hot coke in a car 59 having a bottom feed hopper 60 is transferred into the quenching container 46 through a closure member 61 and a container cover 46a. Quenching water is sprinkled on to the coke via pipes 45, 41 under the guidance of a pump 6 and a control valve 7. The vapour so-formed passes through pipe 2 through a first branch conduit 8 into a preliminary dust separator 9 and through a second branch conduit 13 which opens into a vent pipe 12 communicating with the atmosphere. After a time delay to purge air from the system, time switch 4 opens a valve 14 to fill container 11 with water from an elevated tank 15 under the control of a float valve 17. The deeper level of water in container 11 forces the vapour to flow through conduit 8 into the scrubber 10 having a valve 18 controlling sprinklers. Pure water gas is forced from the top of the cooling scrubber 10 through pipe 19 into a wet bell-type reservoir 20. When no more CO is detected by sensor 42, the time switch 4 controls the closing of valve 14, the opening of valve 22 thereby emptying container 11, and the closing off valve 18. Any further quenching vapours are discharged through pipe 12 and a scrubbing section 23. The cooling and scrubbing water is removed from a hot water buffer tank 26 by means of a pump 27 via a pipe 43 and is transferred to tank 15 via a trickling water cooler 25 and a pipe 44. An overflow 28 is provided in the tank 15. Any shortages of fresh water is made up via a float-operated valve 29. |
