<p>1477049 Paper-making apparatus BELOIT CORP 6 Sept 1974 [14 Sept 1973] 39045/74 Heading D2A In a twin-wire machine including an arcuate forming zone 14, the outer wire 10 is separated from the inner wire 12 at a first point 34 upstream of a second point 35 where the inner wire 12 is separated from the zone 14, and the inner surface of the inner wire is blocked by the imperforate surface of a shoe or roll at the points 34, 35 to ensure that the formed web W follows the inner wire. As shown the imperforate surface and the arcuate forming zone 14 are defined by a solid cylindrical roll 15, and an adjustable guide roll 16 allows the angle of divergence between the wires 10, 12 to be varied, e.g. up to 5‹. The divergence of the wires is said to create a low pressure zone between them which is filled by air flow through the outer wire 10 since flow through inner wire 12 is blocked. This flow cleans the wire 10 and forces the web onto the inner wire 12, being assisted by the surface tension of water in the inner wire mesh. Dewatering of the web is achieved through outer wire 10 into savealls 33, 33a and later through inner wire 12 into saveall 15a. The angle of stock flow into the zone 14 can be adjusted, as shown, by providing a pivotally-mounted headbox 26.</p> |
