1441721 Injection moulding HEXCEL CORP 10 May 1974 [18 June 1973] 20822/74 Heading B5A [Also in Division H1] A sheath pressure tap fitting for placing over a cut-out 32 in the sheath of an electric cable 16 to inject settable fluid, preferably a thermoplastics material, into the cable core has an injection port 8 projecting from one side of the sheet and communicating with the other side; which other side carries spacers to space at least a portion of the sheet from the cable core to form a passageway between the cable core and the sheet that communicates with the injection port to ease the flow of the settable fluid into the core. Preferably the sheet is rectangular of 4À75 inches by 4 inches, the cutout being at least 3 inches each way. The spacers are preferably longitudinally arranged ribs 26 symmetrically placed about the injection port 8, and extending only over a fraction of the width of the sheet. The sheet is held to the contour of the cable by tape wrappings (38, Fig. 1, not shown) and the middle 22 of the sheet may be made thicker to prevent collapse on to the core. Lengthwise external ribs 20 may be present.
|
