PURPOSE:To produce an SiC whisker having the long fiber in the comparatively high yield by packing a specified mixture in a crucible and heating the mixture incorporated in the crucible with a heating furnace means surrounding the crucible. CONSTITUTION:A mixed raw material 2 contg. 1mol part SiO2, 1.5-5mol part C and 1/24-1/2mol part NaF is packed in a base part of a crucible 1 which is made of graphite and provided with an aperture in the upper part and the upper part 4 of the crucible 1 is connected to a lower end of an exhaust pipe 5 and lengthened in the upper part to perforate an outside wall 8 and projected. On the other hand, an inert gas such as Ar is introduced in the outside of the crucible 1 through the introduction pipes 11, 17 and an inflow port 18 and the mixed raw material incorporated in the crucible 1 is heated at the temp. in the range within 1,400-1,700 deg.C with a heater 6 of a heating furnace means. |
