<p>A log saving machine using an endless band saw, has a carriage which pulls the log past the band. A gripping mechanism has an upper and a lower jaw which are forced towards one another to grip the log. These are operated by an oleo-pneumatic piston and cylinder. The piston-cylinder unit has a hollow piston rod connected a high pressure oil circuit with control valves. The top of the piston rod carries a cross piece which travels inside a pneumatic cylinder. The hollow rod consists of an inner and an outer sleeve which slide together telescopically under the control of the oil pressure. The pneumatic part forms a double acting cylinder.</p> |
