[Also in Divisions C3 and C5] The invention comprises hydroxyphenylacylamides of formula in which R 1 is a C 1 -C 8 alkyl group or a C 5 -C 12 cycloalkyl group; R 2 is hydrogen, a C 1 -C 8 alkyl group or a C 5 -C 12 cycloalkyl group and n is 1-10. The preferred compounds are those in which R 1 and R 2 are tertiary alkyl groups or those in which R 1 and R 2 are C 1 -C 4 alkyl groups and n is 4-8. They may be prepared by reacting an appropriate amino phenol with the acyl chloride of an acid HOOC-C n H 2n -COOH in solution. Examples are given of the preparation of (a) N,N1 - bis(3,5 - di - t - butyl - 4- hydroxyphenyl) adipamide, (b) N,N1 - bis - (3- methyl - 5 - t - butyl - 4 - hydroxyphenyl)- sebacamide; (c) N,N1 - bis(3,5 - di - t - butyl- 4 - hydroxy - phenyl) - sebacamide; and N,N1- bis - (3 - methyl - 5 - t - butyl - 4 - hydroxyphenyl) - adipamide.
