<p>1486948 Apparatus for selecting perfume constituents L'OREAL 24 Oct 1974 [24 Oct 1973] 46089/74 Heading G1B Apparatus for defining the desired properties of a perfume likely to appeal to a particular person or persons and hence determining the constituents required to formulate the perfume or vice versa comprises a flat support on which are placed two closed lines one inside the other, the first line A having distributed along it the names of the principal characteristic smells, each name being adjacent the names of the two most closely related characteristic smells, and the second line C having distributed along it the names of aesthetically pleasing characteristics, each name similarly being adjacent the names of the two most closely related aesthetically pleasing characteristics, the lines being so positioned that specific types of characteristic smell are radially aligned with what are considered to be the corresponding types of aesthetically pleasing characteristics, and a device for marking the position of P of the aesthetically pleasing characteristics, the device being in the form of a deformable polygon , the apparatus in the embodiment shown comprising flat support 1, ring 5 mounted on the support and carrying reference numbers corresponding to sub-categories of the characteristic smells marked on line A, line C indicating twenty aesthetically pleasing characteristics, deformable triangle 6, 7, 8 the sides of which can slide freely relative to one another about apices 9, 10, 11, apices 9, 10, 11 being heated to indicate three characteristic smells, corresponding to chosen aesthetically pleasing characteristics, or vice versa, disc 12 rotatably centred on apex 9 and carrying orientatable arrow 13 which when positioned indicates the order of intensity of the three components to be used in making up the perfume which will have the desired characteristics, and an uppermost annular removable cover (18) Fig. 9 (not shown) which may carry on it the names of chemical components to be used to make up the perfume.</p> |
