In a housing made of two parts connected together, e.g. halves of a cylindrical or turbine casing, the opposed faces of th joint are provided with a sealing strip (7) of higher quality material than the housing, e.g. chromium-rich steel compared to carbon steel for the housing. The strip is secured to a rail (11) which is in turn secured to one face (4) of the housing parts. Th erail is made of the same material as the housing itself. The strip is welded to the rail and the arrangement facilitates the inspection of the weld, e.g. by X-ray. The rails themselves are secured to the housing by welding (12) or by screws (13).
