Enzymatic treatment of plant or animal tissue takes place continuously. The material to be treated is moved, through a reaction (e.g. cylindrical) vessel, with a narrow period of dwell spectrum, by means of a guided conveying device (e.g. slowly rotating screw conveyor). Process is used esp for prepn. of fruit- and vegetable juices, fruit- and vegetable pulp; for digesting plant or animal tissue prior to extn. processes; for prepn. of protein hydrolysates for human nutrition or as animal feedstuffs; for prepn. of organic fertilisers from waste; for collagen recovery from skin waste. A single continuous enzyme treatment appts. can be used in place of several, intermittently working enzyme treatment reactors. Increased expenditure is compensated by limitation to one appts. in place of several devices working in parallel. Process allows introduction of one or more enzymes at desired positions. Different treatment times can be used for different enzymes. Conditions can be altered along flow-path. |
