Furnace includes a casing formed by a circular row of vertical refractory bricks. Each brick has a trapezoidal cross-section, the end surfaces of which mate with adjacent bricks to form a polygonal casing in which the number of bricks is 6N, where N is a whole number and min. 1. As an example, the casing is a regular polygon with 12 or 18 sides. On the outside surface of the casing are vertical bracing beams, the side flanges of which contain holes so the beams can be joined together by bracing straps using bolts and nuts. One pref. furnace uses N=2, the twelve bricks being surrounded by straps bolted to four U-channel beams. The furnace has a robust structure, and will withstand repeated assembly and dismantling without damage to the refractory bricks. |
