1393005 Hydrogenation; oxidation SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 20 March 1972 [22 March 1971 (3)] 12908/72 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions B1 C5 and C3] The following preparations are illustrated using as catalyst a product obtained by decarboxylating a metal salt of a polymeric acid (e.g. polyacrylic acid) to form finely divided metal and/or metal oxide in a polymer matrix:- (a) Methyl ethyl ketone and secondary butyl alcohol by hydrogenation of methyl vinyl ketone (metal in catalyst = copper)-see Test XVIIB. (b) Conversion of benzoic acid to phenol in the presence of oxygen, NaOH, water and ethanol (metal in catalyst = copper)-see Test XVIIC. (c) Ethylene oxide by oxidation of ethylene (metal in catalyst = silver)-see Test XVIIIA. (d) Acrolein by air oxidation of propylene (metal in catalyst = tin/uranium)-see Test XVIIIB.
