Rotary kiln with a planetary cooler, consisting of cooler tubes dispersed as satellites around the kiln, has the tube coolers laterally connected to a hollow crown surrounding the kiln and connected to it by a series of chutes, regularly distributed around the furnace. A barrier is located at the entrance to each cooler tube so as to keep a quantity of material in the lower part of the crown, onto which material leaving the furnace falls. The heavy wear on the surface of the crown is due to impact of hot material leaving the kiln is reduced or eliminated.
