PURPOSE:To reduce the production cost of sintered diamond by calcining a mixture of diamond powder and the powder of the nickel-based alloy or cobalt- based alloy as a binder at the pressure and temp. lower than those used in the conventional high-temp. and high-pressure method. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of 70-97wt.% diamond powder and 30-3wt.% of the powder of the nickel-based alloy or cobalt-based alloy having <=1150 deg.C melting temp. is press-molded at the pressure of >=0.5ton/cm<2>, and the molded body is heated at 900-1150 deg.C and calcined to form the sintered body. In this sintered body, the molten nickel-based alloy or cobalt-based alloy is fused in a liq. phase to the discrete diamond grains in the aggregate of many diamond grains, and a sintered structure is formed. |
