Long-panel-shaped constructional element employed to form a border or edge for flower beds, lawns, paths etc., and made of fibres and cement, esp. asbestos cement. Two parallel panels are used sepd. by distance pieces and standing on their edge so that the portions of the two panels below the distance pieces can be inserted in the earth or soil. The asbestos-cement panels are pref. 2-6 mm thick, and made of a mixt. of fine cement and dry, long fibres of asbestos to which various addns. improving the quality may be added; the mixt. is fully hydrated with water, and the panels are pref. impregnated with an alkali silicate soln. Numerous designs are show in 14 figs. The elements are strong and weather-resistant. Because they contain no organic matter they are not attacked by fungi or bacteria. The distance pieces provide additional reinforcement.
