The annual cylinder (RZ) engine has a number of pistons (K1, K2) attached to the rim of a disc (S) mounted on a central spindle (A), via a slot (N) in the cylinder wall. The rim of the disc seals this slot, except for a cutout section adjoining the leading edge of each piston which acts as an exhaust port. Disc valves (V1, V2) equal in number to the pistons subdivide the cylinder. They are electromagnetically actuated to permit piston passage. Working fluid is supplied from the middle of the disc through internal passages to inlet valves (E2) at each piston. Alternatively, or in addition inlet valves (E1) may be fitted to the cylinder. Lubrication points (O) are provided in the cylinder walls, unless lubricant can be carried in the working fluid. If fixed partitions are fitted instead of the disc valves, the engine becomes an oscillating one.
|
