The combination micrometer and dial guage consists of a cylindrical housing attached to the end of a standard micrometer vernier screw. Mounted at right-angles to the cylinder is a further tubular arm on which is mounted a dial gauge. The dial indicator is operated by an internal push rod running the length of the arm. The rod is attached to one arm of a pivoted bell-crank located at the T junction of the two tubes. The second arm of the crank is connected to a shorter rod whose measuring tip protrudes through the end of the micrometer tube. The rotating screw end of the micrometer vernier also carries a feeler tip so that the instrument can measure accurately between centres.
