1,128,974. Surface-modified acids and bases; surface-modified ascorbic acid. V. LASOMARTINEZ. 8 Dec., 1965 [29 Oct., 1965], No. 52073/65. Headings C2C and C2V. [Also in Division A5] The surfaces of solid particles comprising or consisting of an acid or alkaline material are modified by causing a chemical reaction between the said acid or alkaline material and an alkali or acid to produce a salt and water and stopping the reaction by complete drying to remove all the water present, thereby to form a layer of a salt on the surfaces of the particles. The invention is described with reference to medicaments, e.g. 1-phenyl-2,3-dimethyl-pyrazolene (" Antipyrine "-Registered Trade Mark), sodium meprobamate (2 - methyl - 2 - n - propyl - 1,3- propanediol dicarbamate) and ascorbic acid, and to tartaric and citric acids for use in effervescent formulations. The neutral medicaments are mixed with lactic and adipic acids respectively and the mixture is treated with moist ammonia and the acids are reacted with NaHCO 3 , NaOH and MgO. |
