A process for prepg. a developer as a homogeneous mixt. for processing black and white cinematographic materials, by mixing (a) developer substances, e.g. metal with hydroquinone or hydroquinone with phenidone or with Me-phenidone, with (b) preservatives, e.g. anhydrous Na sulphite or Na- or K metabisulphite, (c) accelerators, e.g. crystalline borax and (d) anti-fogging agents, e.g. KBr. Before mixing developer substances (A) with the other components (b, c, d) they are treated with a soln. (I) of sugar, anhydrous Na sulphite, boric acid and aniline dye in distilled water. After mixing all components, compsn. is dried, e.g. at 30-50 degrees C, or by exposure to air until pulverulent. Pre-treatment with (I) improves water-solubility at 10-70 degrees C, compsns. have low toxicity; improved actinism, and fine grain, reduced tendency to fogging, tanning activity, compensating properties, improved storage-stability, requiring no hermetic and ligh-impermeable packing, improved resolving power and reduced consumption of developer. Developer soln. need be neither filtered nor left to settle.
|
