The locking mechanism for a tilting window has sliding members on the edges of the window frame. The frame leg (10) is fitted with a push rod (11) carrying a locking lug (8) and an angle-shaped element (12) with its horizontal leg (13) sliding in the horizontal push rod guide (14) of the horizontal leg (15) of the frame. The horizontal leg (13) of the angle (12) has an inclined surface (16) engaging the wedge-shaped element (17) of the push rod (4), so that the locking lug (8) is actuated vertically. The horizontal leg (13) of the angle-shaped fitting (12) can be fork-shaped with rounded leg ends working together with a corresponding edge surface (18) of the wedge (17).
