The cigarette filter has a smoke channel, closed in the rest position, which opens on inhaling the smoke as a function of the suction produced in the smoke channel. The filter has a cylindrical body (1) of rigid transparent or translucent material, one end (1a) of which is widened to hold the cigarette. The lower end of the filter body (1) is closed (1b) with symmetrically arranged apertures (1c). A flexible member (4) if fixed to a central shaft (5) and is gripped between the ribs (1a) moulded to the body (1). When a cigarette is inserted in the supporting chamber (3) and the smoker inhales, the membrane (4) moves away from the wall of the recess. The tobacco smoke passes through the resultant annular space, and tar is deposited in the recess (6) and cannot be carried along the smoke channel (2). No build-up of deposits causing resistance to flow can take place, and the filter can be used with a succession of cigarettes before it has to be discarded.
|
