The operating device has an operating shaft (15) which is rotatable in both directions, cooperating with the control rod (16) via a threaded coupling, so that the control rod is moved axially in the direction of one switch position upon rotation in one direction and moved axially in the direction of the other switch position by rotation in the other direction. The operating shaft may be rotated by an electric motor (13).
