1461720 Laminates; seaming non-metallic sheet material ZIRISTOR AB 6 Aug 1975 [15 Aug 1974] 32892/75 Headings B5N and B5K A method of longitudinally dividing into separate, narrower strips a parent web or strip of laminate material comprising a base layer 1 e.g. of paper, aluminium-foil or foamed plastics with an outer plastics coating 2, 3 e.g. of polyethylene bonded to each face thereof comprises cutting the parent web or strip on one face e.g. by rotating roller cutter 8 along a first longitudinal line to a depth corresponding substantially to the joint thickness of the outer plastics layer and the base layer and cutting e.g. by rotating roller cutter 7 the parent web or strip along the opposite face along a second longitudinal line transversely spaced from the first longitudinal line, to a depth corresponding substantially to the thickness of the outer plastics layer alone and thereafter separating the zone of the second mentioned outer plastics layer located between the two lines from the base layer. A strip made by the method of the invention may be lap-jointed to form a tube, strip 4 of coating layer 2 which extends beyond the edge of the base layer being joined to the coating layer 2 at the opposite edge zone of the strip, the joint being formed by overlapping the edge zones of the strip with the coating layers in contact over the areas 5, 6 which are bonded together by pressure and heating. |
