Asbestos-free brake lining - contg. steel wool, organic polymer, carbon, friction and slide aids and oxides of chromium and/or manganese

Lining, esp. for drum brakes in utility vehicles, contg. a metal wool, an organic polymeric binder and usual friction- or slide-aids is improved in that it contains 5-15 wt.% of an organic polymeric binder, 2-15 wt.% of friction- and slide-aids, 40-70 wt.% of steel wool, 2-10 wt.% of a chromium oxide and/or 2-12 wt.% of a manganese oxide and 5-15 wt.% of carbon. The lining has stable, high coefft. of friction, and high thermal conductivity, is noncorrosive and wear-resistant; does not attack the opposite material; and has long service life. It is relatively inexpensive.
