In a solids feeder a cylindrical solids container has an axially moving piston which moves from one end, and at the ohter end a rotating brush with its axis at right angles to that of the container. Movement of the piston pushes the solid into the path of the rotating brush which sweeps it into a stream of air. Pref. the peripheral velocity of the brush is at least 100 times the linear velocity of the piston. The top of the piston has the same contour as the brush surface so that there is minimal dead space. Cf conventional feeders, which may be rotary valves, screws, vibrators etc. the device described has higher accuracy over a wide range of powder particle size, gives low loss of powder and is unaffected by the presence of agglomerates in the powder. |
