The projection may have a semicircular or rectangular cross-section where the width at the base of the ring is 3-15% fo the dia. of the stud. The height of the ring projection is pref. 10-70% of the length of the tip used to strike the arc. The stud consists of a shank with a flange comprising a curved contour and a slightly conical end surface. On this surface is a round tip employed to strike the arc. A strong weld is made with the ability to carry stress over the entire area of the joint between the stud and a metal to which the stud is welded.
