The shaft blank (10) consists of a shaft part (11) and a shaft head (12) with bevelling (13) to secure the shaft against rotation. The shaft (11) is provided with a press fit area (14), a threaded area (15) and a transition area (16). The head surface (17) adjacent to the press fit area is provided with a ridge produced by cold impact forming, which, during the later operations is removed. For further processing the shaft undergoes a rolling operation. The rolling mechanism has two rolling mandrels carrying the threading rollers and a counter roller.
