1463728 Capacitors P R MALLORY & CO Inc 8 July 1974 [20 Feb 1974] 30188/74 Heading H1M In a capacitor comprising stacked flat plates 40 separated by insulating sheets 50, each plate has at least one tab 42 and at least as many notches 43 as tabs, the dimensions of the tabs and notches and their relative disposition being such that when the tabs are bent to be substantially perpendicular to the plane of the plates, they pass through or adjacent to notches in the plates above them, tabs of the same polarity being aligned for electrical connection to each other by welding. As shown, to reduce the stack volume, slits 44 are provided so that the tabs are bent out of the area of the plate, and the sheets 50 have notches 51 aligned with both sets of tabs. Alternatively (Fig. 7, not shown) the plates could be slightly offset. The capacitor may be electrolytic the plates being etched aluminium, niobium or tantalum having an anodically formed oxide coating and easing 93 containing electrolyte. The plates may be other than round. For a feed-through capacitor a plurality of tabs and notches are provided per plate, with a corresponding number of notches in the separator. |
