1464057 Making electrical connections AMP Inc 16 May 1975 [14 June 1974] 20766/75 Heading B3A Apparatus for simultaneously inserting two groups of conductors 8 into slots 9 in two rows of contacts 4 in a housing 2, the slots 9 in one row of contacts facing in the opposite direction to that of the slots in the other row, comprises a receiver 13 for the housing and having two combs 14 with slots 16 for aligning both groups of conductors 8 with the slots 9, and an inserting tool 20 on each side of the receiver for inserting the conductors in the slots 9. Insulation on the conductors is penetrated by the contacts. The lower inserting tool 20 with a toothed operating part 22 is mounted on a base 23 having upstanding posts 24, 25 carrying the receiver 13 and a support 18 for the upper tool 20 also with a toothed part 22. With the support 18 rotated about the longer of the two posts 18 the lower group of conductors 8 is placed in the bottom of the slots 16. The connector 2 is now placed in the receiver and the upper group of conductors is placed in the top of the slots 16. The member 18 is pivoted over the upper group and is depressed to insert this group into the top row of contacts and depress the receiver 13 towards the lower part 20 for inserting the lower group of conductors 8 in the lower row of connectors. Springs 28 are located on the posts 24 between the receiver 13 and the base 23 and support 18. A shear member (not shown) may be mounted on the receiver with the connector 2 so as to present shearing edges to square edges on the tools 20 for trimming the conductors. |
