PURPOSE: A washing machine and a controlling method thereof are provided to prevent unnecessary power waste by operating only a second washing unit of a small capacity when washing a small quantity of laundry. CONSTITUTION: A washing machine includes a plurality of washing units(11,12), a power connection unit, and a power control device(400). The power connection unit is installed in one among a plurality of washing units. The power connection unit shares a washing unit and a power. The power control device monitors a power line of a corresponding power line(411) and the power control device controls an operation of a corresponding washing unit within a range of a power limit value when operating a plurality of washing unit at the same time.
