1463828 Making electrical harnesses AMP Inc 18 March 1974 [4 April 1973] 11851/74 Heading B3A A method of making an electrical harness comprises relatively positioning a set of jigs 56A, 56B, 56C, 56D, Fig. 13, lacing conductors 131, 132 between the jigs, positioning electrical connectors near each of the jigs and moving the conductors into the connectors followed by binding together the conductors between the jigs. Each connector comprises a housing 26, Fig. 2, with spaced openings 34 to receive connector terminals 6 each provided with a slot 4 to receive a conductor end. The housing has a cover 44 to retain the terminals therein. Each connector housing 26, is positioned in a fixed base 56, Fig. 5, connected to a panel (62), Fig. 7 (not shown). The base 56 has conductor receiving slots 66, 85 on each side of a recess 64, Fig. 9, which receives the housing 26. The conductors 131, 132, Fig. 13 are wound on the jigs defined by the bases 56A-56D and pushed into the slots 4 of the terminals by a upper tool 92, Fig. 5, which is lowered against spring-bias by a manually operated cam 96. The tool 92, Fig. 9, has flanges 104, 105. the former of which co-operates with a cutter bar 68 to sever the conductors during lowering of the tool. After severing of the conductors the connector housings are removed from the jigs and the conductors between the housings are bound together, Fig. 2. |
