A technique is described for locating a vehicle w.r.t. a predetermined trajectory which crosses regions which are covered by radio beacons or markers. At certain points on the trajectory, the information provided by two or more beacons is recorded. During a subsequent journey, similar information is detected from the same beacons. Using the actual information from each beacon, the point on the trajectory which corresponds with this information is obtained by referring back to the pre-recorded information. This enables the transverse deviation in the actual position of the vehicle w.r.t. the trajectory to be determined from the distance between the two known points on the trajectory. The associated equipment comprises a sensor (2) which detects the information from the two beacons; a memory (6) with a read-out facility; and a system (1) which provides an electrical signal indicating the distance separating the two points obtained on the trajectory.
|
