The tarpaulin frame is designed in such a way that it can be set up with a small number of manoeuvres both for crane loading and for fork-lift loading. It has rods (6) which are removably mounted with their free ends on bows (7). The bows (7) are supported themselves by means of stands (8) on uprights (2) anchored in the loading surface. For crane loading, the rods (6) are removed from the bows (7). For fork-lift truck loading, the runs located between two tail gates and the associated stands are removed in each case. In order, nevertheless, to provide the necessary support to the rods (6) and bows (7) which are left in place for fork-lift truck loading, the rods (6) which meet in the area of the upper end of the stand, together with the bow (7), are connected to one another by means of a common, detachable carrier (9). The carrier (9) assumes the supporting function of the stand when it is removed and prevents the rods (6) and the bows (7) from dropping down. <IMAGE>
