A process for the expression of foreign genes in yeasts The invention relates to the optimization of the expression of foreign genes, especially recombinant factor XIIIa (rFXIIIa) in yeasts. The optimization was essentially carried out by use of a hybrid Gal UAS /CycI promoter, deletion of the 5' non-translated region and truncation of the 3' non-translated region of the FXIIIa cDNA, selection of specific yeast strains and a particularly suitable growth medium composed of whey or whey hydroly ate. Quantities achievable in this way are ? 100 mg/l FXIIIa in shake cultures and ? 500 mg/l in fermentation after scale-up.
