Ethyl 1-phenyl-2-dimethylaminocyclohexane-1-carboxylate or its 3(4)-ene is heated with Li malonate in dry ether at 30 - 50 degrees C and the complex is hydrolysed under alkaline conditions to obtain 1-phenyl-1-hydroxymethyl-2-dimethylamino-cyclohexane or the 3(4)-ene; acetic anhydride in pyridine produces the O-acetates. The new derivs. are useful analgetics. |
