[Also in Division B3] In a blanking and drawing machine for producing cup-shaped seals for bottles from metal strip, the strip is fed from a coil 12 between feed rollers 14, 15, over an idle roller 16 to a take-up spool 17, the rollers 14, 15 and 16 being mounted in a slidable frame B which during the active part of the blanking and drawing cycle moves bodily in a direction opposite to the feed motion so that the strip is effectively stationary relative to the blanking and drawing tools. The tools are mounted on a piston 6 which is connected by a rod 55, which is adjustable in length, to an eccentric strap 56. The strap 56 is mounted on an eccentric disc 4 secured to a main shaft 2 which also carries a pulley 61 which drives the take-up spool 17 through a belt 64 and a pulley 27a which drives the knurled feed roller 15 through a crossed belt 26. Also mounted on the shaft 2 is a cam 5 which co-operates with a cam-follower 25 on one end of a lever 23 which is pivotally mounted at 24. The other end of the lever is forked and engages a cross-member of the frame B. The cam 5 has a circular periphery except at 5a and 5b and is angularly positioned on the shaft 2 so that the frame B is first moved downward in the same direction as the feed motion of the strip and then as the piston approaches the rightward end of its stroke the cam follower 25 engages the portion 5a of the cam and the frame B is moved in opposition to the feed motion of the strip. |
