1,194,596. Web unwind/rewind apparatus. H. F. DALGLISH. 12 Sept., 1967 [7 Oct., 1966], No. 41579/67. Heading B8R. [Also in Division F2U] At least two-web rolls 14 and 15 (three in Fig. 10) are mounted on a single shaft 13 for rotation independently of each other. One roll 15 is either braked or driven by the shaft 13; the other roll 14 is either braked or driven by means engaging the periphery of the roll, e.g. a feed belt 67, Fig. 1 or a weighted brake band (83, Fig. 5). The rolls are mounted on the shaft 13 by pairs of chucks 17 and 34. The chucks are of the type provided with a series of angularly spaced generally rectangular slots 19, Fig. 4, which are parallel to the axis of the chuck, and which contain elongated bars 20 which are of generally triangular section. The bars 20 are held in the slots 19 by an endless resilient band 21. With a core 16 slipped on to the chuck, relative rotation between the chuck and the core causes the bars 20 to pivot in their grooves, causing the apex of each bar to firmly grip the core. Chuck 34 for web-roll 15 is clamped to the shaft 13 by a set screw (50, Fig. 8), so that the roll rotates with the shaft. Chucks 17 and 34 for roll 14 are allowed to rotate relative to the shaft 13. |
