TOLL COLLECTING SYSTEM AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To take measures a quickly as possible when a vehicle with no ETC(electronic toll collection) system enters into an ETC lane or when there is something wrong in ETC even if for an ETC vehicle. SOLUTION: This ETC system radio-communicates with an on-vehicle device mounted on a vehicle entering a passing lane 11, determines whether the ETC processing is possible or not, and displays the determination result on a road side display 12 installed on a roadside in a form of a message. This system is also provided with curb displays 14 disposed on the upper surfaces and sides of the curb stones on the both sides of the passing lane 11 along the vehicle advancing direction and visually informing a processing state to a driver of the vehicle by displaying a determination result of possible or impossible of ETC process by flickering green '→' marks or red 'x' marks.
