Medicaments are fixed on carefully selected ion exchange resins which allow an almost instantaneous release of the active medicaments from the resin complexes when they come in contact with anions or cations present in the gastro-intestinal tract juices. The resins have a low level of cross-linking (is approx. 4% divinylbenzene), small particle size, are capable of complexing a large amount of medicament and have weak acid or basic gps. Suitable resins include the copolymer of methacrylic acid and divinylbenzene, and the copolymer of divinylbenzene and dimethylaminomethyl- or trimethylaminomethyl polystyrene. Specif., claimed drugs include propoxyphene, methaqualone, tetracyclines, erythromycin, salicylic acid, p-aminosalicylic acid and phenobarbital.
|
