Heat treating furnace for anneling, case hardening and carbonitriding under both inert gas and conventional atmos. consists of a metal casing with refractory insulation contg. a retort for the introduction of the workpiece. A ventilator regulates press in the system. The refractory is wound with electric resistance which is used for heating the furnace and a regulating cooler blows in cold air between the retort and the furnace wall.
