PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following two problems to be solved with regard to heat generation accompanying light source emitting light in the battery-driven display device which is a small-sized and hand-held type or else: (1) reduction of the energy loss due to heat generation accompanying light source emitting light and improvement of the efficiency of energy utilization by virtue of effective utilization of heat energy, and (2) realization of a cooling system which is capable of efficient cooling and is made space-saving. SOLUTION: The display device is provide with a thermoelectric transducer having heat-electricity transduce effect and electricity-heat transduce effect, a temperature detection means for measuring and detecting the temperature on a light source or around the light source and a thermoelectric transducer function switching control means for switching the function of the thermoelectric transducer to either of a heat-electricity conversion power generation function and a electricity-heat conversion electronic cooling function.
