IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS AND METHOD

An image processing apparatus is provided. The image processing apparatus can cluster multiple gather rays related with photon mapping hierarchically. In a data structure generated by the hierarchical clustering, when photo gathering result does not satisfy a pre-determined first condition, the image processing apparatus can share the photon gathering result adaptively by correlating the first gather ray with a second gather ray, which is a neighboring gather ray of the first gather ray. The image processing apparatus includes a memory and a processing part. The memory stores the data structure generated by clustering the multiple gather rays hierarchically. The processing part merges the photon gathering result as to the second gather ray with photon gathering as to the first gather ray.
